Try out one of these activities to make literacy a part of your family's daily life!

1.  Ask your child to write or draw out your grocery list while you recite the items.
2.  Invite your child to help count out money to make a purchase at the store.
3.  Read a story together at bedtime.
4.  When cooking a meal, involve your children in measuring the ingredients.
5.  Read signs, billboards and licence plates together while going for a drive.
6.  Teach your child how to read a map.
7.  Take a look at a world map and  talk about places you've been, where you would like to travel and the places where friends and family live.
8.  Take time to research online a topic that your family is interested in. Researching skills are important and help with reading and comprehension.
9.  Sing along to songs on the radio while in the car.  Singing encourages learning patterns of words, rhymes and rhythms, and is strongly connected to language skills.
10.  Play a family board game, and read the instructions aloud to each other.
11.  Involve your children in the task of paying bills.  This helps  teach financial skills early on in life.
12.  Set out a basket of library books on your coffee table and encourage your child to take 10min a day to browse through them.
